LaDean Bennett and Mary Alice Dick LaDean Bennett and Mary Alice (Brand) Dick, formerly from Fort Wayne, will celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary on Saturday, December 24, 2016, with an open house from 1:00-3:00 p.m. at their assisted-living facility, Magnolia Springs, 14901 Carey Road, Carmel, Indiana 46033. They were married January 4, 1947 at Pleasant Chapel Church of the Brethren in Ashley. Their children are Anne J. (Norman) Stump of Indianapolis, Ronald J. (Sheila) Dick of Fort Wayne, Randy J. Dick of Panacea, FL, Mary Jo (Doug) Smock of Bowling Green, Ind. and Cathy (Dick) Egler of Noblesville. They have seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. LaDean Dick is retired from the General Electric laboratory after 33 years. Mary Alice is a retired Fort Wayne Community School teacher with 26 years of service. The couple met when LaDean landed his single-engine airplane on her parents’ farm in DeKalb County and asked Mary Alice, the new teacher in the Flint School (from which he had previously graduated) for a date. They lived for 54 years on Sherman Blvd. next to the Franke Park Zoo, before moving to their current residence in May.
