CHEAP SHOTS

Cheap Shots: Pats fan not ready for shotgun formation

Also, Red Sox fitness plan a failure.

A fan accidentally shot himself in the leg while sitting his parked car at the New England Patriots' Gillette Stadium before the team's game against the Giants. He was later the only one not to make a joke about Plaxico Burress.

A Patriots spokesman said there is no rule against having a gun in the parking lot. And that makes sense. After all, it's $40 to park, so robbery is already legalized.

Training table problems

Former Boston Red Sox strength and conditioning coach Dave Page said one position player and three pitchers were not satisfactorily fit for the last weeks of the season. That's really surprising considering the pitchers' dedicated off-day diet of fried chicken and beer.

Hit and run

NASCAR driver Kyle Busch has been fined $50,000 and put on probation for intentionally wrecking Ron Hornaday Jr. during a truck race last weekend. He was first suspended for last Sunday's Sprint Cup race.

This sends a powerful message. That message: Objects in the rear-view mirror are closer than they appear, especially if they're Kyle Busch.

You've got whose mail?

Shaquille O'Neal is suing a former information technology employee for allegedly selling his personal emails. That leads to a question: If you're buying someone's emails, could it be you have too much discretionary income?

Caddysmack

Former Tiger Woods' caddie Steve Williams has apologized for racial remarks he made about Woods while at a private roast. I have to wonder, what kind of wine is best to serve with roasted caddie?

Quarterback Scrabble

New York Giants defensive end Justin Tuck, praising quarterback Eli Manning after a win over the Patriots said, “You can't spell Elite without Eli.” In a related note for Colts fans, you can't watch Painter without Pain.
