University of Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly underwent surgery on Thursday, but is now is resting comfortably.

He should return home this weekend after successful back surgery.

Kelly had been suffering from a herniated disc in his lower back.

He is scheduled to make a complete recovery by the time Notre Dame opens its football training camp on August 4.
