Huntington North High School golfer Jordan Sweet recently committed to play collegiately at Saint Francis and is closing his prep career on a high note.

Sweet advanced to the IHSAA State Golf Championship by shooting a one-over par 73 in the Muncie Regional at The Players Club in Yorktown on Saturday.

"Jordan has really changed his mental attitude this year," Viking coach Scott Winter said in a release. "He has become serious about taking on the leadership role for the team. He is the first one to practice and the last one to leave, but what's more important is what he has been able to achieve in the classroom."

Sweet tied with two other golfers for medalist honors with his score. He shot 39 and a sizzling 34 to tie David Hilebrand (Westfield) and Zach Seeler (Marion).

Earlier this season Sweet won the North Central Conference Tournament with a 75 which also earned him All-NCC First Team selection. He led HNHS to the NCC team championship as well.

Sweet is the recipient of the Rob Henn Athletic Scholarship, which was established in 2008 and is supported by an annual golf outing. The scholarship is awarded to a student athlete from Huntington North who displays "unquestionable character, a high regard for teammates, and due respect for opponents."

"I believe Jordan will be a good fit to our USF program," Cougar coach Michelle Smith said. "He has a very mature attitude towards school and golf. Jordan knows how to work hard to succeed in everything he chooses to do."

Sweet is an Academic Honors student at HNHS and is the No. 1 the Vikings. He has excelled on the golf course this year averaging 41 for 9 holes.

He has taken Medalist honors at the Bruin Invitational and the Huntington North Invitational this spring.

He is the son of Susan and David Sweet and plans on majoring in Accounting at Saint Francis.

The IHSAA Boy's Golf Finals are on Tuesday and Wednesday at The Legends Golf Club in Franklin.
