Last week, Allen Superior Court Judge Fran Gull sentenced Louis Lee, 58, to two years in prison, but ordered that time to be served on home detention.
Lee, of Fremont, pleaded guilty in May to theft, admitting to stealing tools from a trailer at Klopfenstein Furniture in Leo-Cedarville last November.
Surveillance cameras at the business captured Lee, a third-shift sergeant, in his black, unmarked patrol car pulling up to the business about 12:45 a.m.
He got out and checked various doors at the business.
The cameras then showed him returning to the business after 3 a.m. and putting items from the van into his police car, according to court documents.
When confronted by internal affairs investigators, Lee brought the tools he took to the interview, confessed and later resigned.
According to court documents, Lee will serve his home detention time in Steuben County.
