Man reportedly found shot, pronounced dead at scene

A man who was reportedly found Saturday afternoon, sitting in a vehicle with an apparent gunshot wound, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to the Fort Wayne Police Department.

The incident was reported around 1:34 p.m., according to a news release. Officers were dispatched to the 900 block of Herman Street to investigate reports of a shooting.

Officers and emergency medical personnel found a man, whose identity has not been released, sitting inside a vehicle that was idling, the release said. The man had an apparent gunshot wound, and paramedics declared him deceased at the scene.

A witness told police that they heard a shot or shots, saw the deceased person in the vehicle and saw a man running east from the location, according to the release.

The deceased man's identity will be released after an autopsy has been completed by the Allen County Coroner's Office, and the incident remains under investigation by police department, coroner's office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
