MOVIE NIGHT: Gather the family, grab some popcorn and settle in for a family movie night at the Foellinger Outdoor Theatre, 3411 Sherman Blvd. Starting at 8:30 p.m., the evening's movie will be “Puss in Boots.” Admission is free.
RIDERS ON PARADE: Participants in the 34th annual Gold Wing Road Riders Association's Wing Ding here this week will roll through town in a Grand Parade beginning about 5:30 p.m. in Johnny Appleseed Park. The parade and route were scheduled as of Tuesday afternoon to proceed as planned, said John Felts, group sales marketing specialist for Visit Fort Wayne. The parade route is as follows: From Harry Baals Drive in Johnny Appleseed Park, riders will go east on St. Joe River Drive, south onAnthony Boulevard, west on State Boulevard, south on Forest Park Boulevard, west on Lake Avenue, west on Main Street, southwest on Thieme Drive, east on Wayne Street, south on Calhoun Street and west on Brackenridge Street to the Fort Wayne TinCaps parking lot at Parkview Field.
The public is invited to bring chairs, blankets or stand to enjoy the parade from public sidewalks and areas along the parade route.
LIGHT POPS MUSIC: Start the weekend with an evening of classical music as the Fort Wayne Philharmonic performs its “Barbecue of Seville” concert at 7 p.m. in Auer Performance Hall at Rhinehart Music Center at IPFW, 2101 Coliseum Blvd. E.
The Phil announced Thursday the concert, originally scheduled for Foellinger Outdoor Theatre in Franke Park, had been moved indoors because of the weather forecast of extreme heat.
People also had been invited to bring or buy food to enjoy a picnic dinner before or during the concert, but they will not be able to bring food in Auer Hall. Picnic tables will be set up outside Rhinehart Center for those who want to have a picnic before the concert.
The evening opens with the Overture to “The Barber of Seville.”
Tickets are $12 for adults and $6 for children age 18 and under. Tickets are available at The Phil box office at 481-0777 or at the door. For more information, visit www.fwphil.org.
FLY AWAY: The sky will be dotted with colorful hot air balloons Friday and Saturday for the 3rd annual Angola Balloons Aloft at Tri-State Steuben County Airport, on U.S. 20 just east of West Fox Lake Road.
From 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., there are several events that include the balloon launches, competition and illumination, as well as air shows, skydiving, music, food, a Children's Fun Fair and more. Some of the hot air balloon events could be postponed due to weather. Admission is free.
MIAMI INDIAN DAYS: Spend an afternoon learning about the lives of Miami Indians and other Native Americans, 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Miami Indian Heritage Days at the Chief Richardville House, 5705 Bluffton Road. The event will showcase local artists and performers demonstrating Miami Indian history and heritage. This is also the Bi-Centennial Celebration of Chief Little Turtle's death, and artifacts and an herb medicine wheel will be displayed in his honor. Admission is $7 for adults; $5 for students, seniors and History Center members; and free for children under 5 are free ages 4 and younger. For more information, call 426-2882.
THE RED COATS ARE COMING: Instead of imagining what life was like during the American Revolution, come be a part of it. Saturday and Sunday, visitors can visit the Historic Old Fort, 1201 Spy Run, for “Revolutionary War: The Western Front.” Admission is a freewill donation.
Guests can learn what life was like in early America by talking to soldiers and families of the Continental Army, as well as witnessing fighting. The fort will be open 10 a.m.- 7 p.m. on Saturday and 10 a.m.-4 p.m. on Sunday. Guided tours will be offered each hour noon-5 p.m. Saturday and noon-3 p.m. Sunday. Tickets for the tour can be bought at Kegionga Mercantile; groups are limited to 12 people.
GAME EXTRAVAGANZA: Play your favorite games or relive your childhood with a day of playing board games, miniatures, trading card games and role playing games 9 a.m.-11 p.m. Saturday at the Three Rivers Gaming Convention in the Grand Wayne Convention Center, 120 W. Jefferson Blvd. There will also be a swap meet for game selling, trading or buying. The convention is a fundraiser for Riley Hospital for Children in Indianapolis. Admission is $10 and free for ages 9 and younger. FLUTTER IN: Surround yourself with butterflies at the Foellinger-Freimann Botanical Conservatory, 1100 S. Calhoun St. Closing today, “Butterflies of Malaysia” is an immersive experience where visitors can witness the delicate, beauty of butterflies from Malaysia, Thailand and Indonesia. Because these insects were bred specifically for this exhibit, special care is necessary and requires volunteers to assist guests entering and exiting the butterfly area.
Admission is $5 for adults, $3 for ages 3-17, and free for ages 2 and under. The conservatory's hours are noon-4 p.m. Sunday, 10 a.m.-5 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday, with hours extended until 8 p.m. Thursdays.
