Thursday afternoon's thunderstorm toppled dozens of trees, left thousands of Fort Wayne residents without power and knocked several traffic lights offline less than a week after another powerful storm wreaked havoc.

Power outages

About 10,000 Fort Wayne-area Indiana Michigan Power customers lost power Thursday, the company said. As of noon Friday, I&M estimated that a total of 4,600 customers were awaiting restoration of electric service.

Estimates for complete power restoration in Allen County will be available

later Friday, said spokesman Dave Mayne.

Traffic signals down

Only East Washington Boulevard and Hanna Street remained down late Friday morning.

Fallen trees

As of Friday morning, Fort Wayne Parks & Recreation officials had received about 40 calls about down trees in streets, city spokesman Frank Suarez said. He noted the actual number of fallen trees would likely be greater.

Splash pads closed

The Shoaff Park splash pad was closed Friday morning due to damage from Thursday's storm. The Waynedale and McCormick splash pads also remained closed because of the June 29 storm.
