This Friday is Friday the 13th, so you know a place named the Lucky Moose is going to have a part on what some may think is the unluckiest day of the year.
The restaurant at 622 E. Dupont Road will offer a southern-themed buffet starting at 5 p.m. Friday for $13.13. Owner Mark Melchi is bringing back royal red shrimp, which he hasn't had for a while, along with crawfish, beer-battered fish, blackened fish, jambalaya and pecan chicken. Draft beers will be 13 cents an ounce.
In other news, the Lucky Moose is adding gluten-free pizza and gluten-free beers to its menu. The gluten-free pizza will be available on the restaurant's Sunday night buffets, too.
DeBrand Fine Chocolates is opening its doors for public tours during the Fort Wayne Newspapers Three Rivers Festival. Tour dates and times are: 10 a.m.-6 p.m. Friday, Saturday and Monday through July 21 and noon-5 p.m. Sunday at 10105 Auburn Park Drive. Tours are $5 a person with a $5 rebate off a purchase of $10 or more. No reservations are required and no minimum group numbers are required.
I don't guess this comes as a surprise, but the drought likely is going to drive up food prices. Purdue Cooperative Extension agricultural economist Chris Hurt predicts consumers will see an increase in food prices of 2.5 percent to 3.5 percent into 2013. It seems likely restaurant prices will rise as will prices at the grocery store.
From 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, Belmont Beverage at The Shoppes of Scott Road, 10311 Illinois Road, is hosting a beer tasting.
Stop by The Fresh Market, 6306 W. Jefferson Blvd., anytime between 3 and 6 p.m. Saturday for a cooking demonstration on how to prepare steak with caramelized ale onions and bacon barbecue glaze and summer herbed orzo salad. Chef Dyeaka Wilson will demonstrate.
