I was just listening to Rush rant about Chief Justice Roberts and the ruling on Obamacare on June 28. Perhaps there is another way to look at events.
If the Supremes had voted down the law, the Democrats would have made bad guys of the Republicans for just playing politics by the “partisan vote” of 5 to 4. By shooting down the Commerce Clause argument and insisting that the mandate IS a tax, this now offers the Republicans an opportunity to rid themselves of the charge that they are the “Stupid Party.”
Remember when George Bush Sr. made the statement “Read my lips. No new taxes,” and then later raised some new taxes when he naively accepted the Democrats’ promise that they would made significant spending cuts (which never happened)? This move was one of the factors that lost him the election.
All the Republicans have to do is run all the clips of President Obama assuring the population that no one making under $250,000 will have any tax increases. “Health care is NOT a tax,” he reiterated time and time again. The Supremes in their decision have strongly disagreed with that statement. It IS a tax!
We all should pray for the republic and public higher education, both of which have slipped into an abyss of mediocre progressivism.
We have seen this “slip” of our republic for many years, but the Purdue “slide” has been swifter. First, Purdue brought Ms. F. Cordova — now M. Daniels. These moves have only “political smell” and do not honor “higher” education. Pray for Daniels and the board at Purdue that they will develop the intelligence and courage to right this once-fine university.
Please pray for our national leadership, that they find the courage to do the right thing and mix in the common sense ingredients. Our “once republic” can no longer be referenced as “republic” as it has now become a poor excuse for even a democracy.
We allow a renegade president to break the law of this once great land, and we just twiddle our fingers or just prattle in the Congress and the court. I am sorry. I am sad. I am ashamed. We all have become gutless wonders in the world’s eyes.
Our native-son pastor from Fort Wayne, Dr. David Jeremiah, indicated very well the defects in our societal options on his Saturday morning message June 24.
One should refer to future Sen. Jim Demint’s June 23 report on Obamacare and last week’s Supreme Court ruling. This Congress needs to wake up and do the job.
I ask all whom read to think. I do not ask for your approval.
