LAFAYETTE — Firefighters needed about an hour to put out a large grass fire along Interstate 65 near Lafayette.
Fire was reported at several spots amid the dry grass along the highway about nightfall Tuesday and WLFI-TV reports flames and smoke were visible from a few miles away.
The fire burned along I-65's southbound lanes for about a two-mile stretch in a rural area around the Tippecanoe-White county line some 15 miles north of Lafayette.
Traffic in the southbound lanes was slowed with fire trucks lining the side of the highway until crews were able to extinguish the flames.
