Heat blamed in deaths of 2 Indiana women

CROWN POINT — Authorities in northwestern Indiana's Lake County are blaming heat exposure for the deaths of two women.

Chief deputy coroner P. J. Adams says the women found dead over the weekend both had other medical conditions, but that autopsies found they died from the heat as temperatures soared past 100 degrees for several days.

Heat exposure is blamed in at least seven other deaths in recent days across Indiana.

The Post-Tribune and The Times of Munster report that those who died in Lake County were a 74-year-old Hammond woman and a 69-year-old Lake Station resident.

Adams says it was over 100 degrees in the Lake Station woman's home, which had its windows closed and no air conditioning. The temperature in the Hammond home that had open windows was about 95 degrees
