Former Indiana Tech standout Brandon Alger has gotten off to a strong professional start this summer. He was recently named the Pitcher of the Week for the Northwest League.

Alger finished the week with one victory in two starts for the Eugene (Ore.) Emeralds. He threw six innings and did not allow a run. The Leo High School graduate struck out seven batters and didn't walk any hitters through the two outings.

The San Diego Padres selected Alger in the 26th round of the Major League Baseball Draft last month and he has done nothing but validate that confidence in him since signing with the club. In 14 innings of work, the left-hander has not allowed a run or walked a batter.

This past week, Alger threw three perfect innings against Everett (Wash.) before allowing one single in three innings of work against Salem-Keizer (Ore.).

Through his brief stint, right-handed batters are hitting just .103 against Alger.
