WASHINGTON — A report says a pilot who thought his plane was leaking fuel has made an emergency landing on an unopened stretch of Interstate 69 in southern Indiana's Daviess County.

The Washington Times-Herald reports the unidentified pilot was able to safely land his plane Monday on the paved northbound lanes of Interstate 69 near the town of Epsom, about 60 miles northeast of Evansville.

The newspaper reports the pilot radioed the Daviess County Airport requesting permission to make an emergency landing.

Indiana Department of Transportation spokeswoman Cher Elliott confirms the plane made a safe landing.

The Federal Aviation Administration was investigating the incident.
