Two people, including a 72-year-old Fort Wayne woman, died Wednesday morning in a crash in southwest Allen County, police said.
Allen County police responded at about 6:50 a.m. to Homestead Road just north of Ernst Road after two cars collided head-on, county sheriff's spokesman Jeremy Tinkel said in a statement.
According to Tinkel, a witness told police a man's green Honda Accord was going north on Homestead when it crossed the center line and struck a silver Accord that was traveling south.
Both drivers were pronounced dead at the scene. No passengers were in either car, Tinkel said. Police do not believe the man was wearing a seat belt, he said.
Neither the man nor the woman, who was identified only as a 72-year-old Fort Wayne woman, was named. The two deaths would mark Allen County's 23rd and 24th auto fatalities of 2012.
The crash remains under investigation by the Allen County Sheriff's Department. Tinkel did not say when the Allen County Coroner's Office would perform autopsies and identify the deceased.
