Fort Wayne's multipurpose baseball diamond, Parkview Field, is offering a free showing of the baseball movie classic “Field of Dreams” Saturday night before the Three Rivers Festival Fireworks Finale.
The ballpark opens at 6 p.m. “Field of Dreams” begins at 7:30 p.m., and the fireworks are scheduled to begin at 10 p.m. off the top of One Summit Square.
“We felt it would be a shame for Parkview Field to sit empty on a night that downtown plans host to one of the most unique and exciting fireworks shows in the Midwest,” said TinCaps Vice President of Marketing Michael Limmer in a news release. “We've always talked about how great a movie would look up on the video board at Parkview Field, so here was the perfect opportunity.”
“Field of Dreams” is a 1989 movie about Iowa farmer Ray Kinsella (Kevin Costner), who feels compelled to build a baseball diamond in his cornfield. As the ghosts of Shoeless Joe Jackson (Ray Liotta) and other Chicago White Sox players infamous for intentionally losing the 1919 World Series materialize on his field, Kinsella realizes he has a divinely ordained place for second chances.
“It's not just about baseball, it's about connecting with others and finding that common bond that ties us all together,” Limmer said in a news release. “It's fun to think about a few thousand people coming together in a ballpark and sharing that community bond on a special night in Fort Wayne.”
No ticket is required for entry. Concessions and beverages can be purchased at ballpark stands and carts throughout the evening.
