Husband charged in stabbing attack

A Fort Wayne man stabbed and seriously injured his estranged wife during a domestic dispute last week, according to court papers filed Thursday.

Joe A. Olivarez, 28, is charged with four felonies: burglary, battery and two counts of domestic battery.

According to court papers, Olivarez kicked in the back door of a home the night of July 13, looking for his wife. A witness reported hearing screaming in the home, and then Olivarez’s wife came outside bleeding, carrying her 5-year-old daughter, court papers stated.

His wife had stab wounds on her neck and body, and she was admitted to a hospital in serious condition.

Olivarez, of the 2700 block of Alexander Street, was being held Thursday at the Allen County Jail in lieu of $40,000 bail.
