Fort Wayne has proven to be as hot as the weather of late, as the TinCaps combined strong pitching with great offensive production in their 8-3 win at Quad Cities on Sunday in Midwest League action.

The victory was Fort Wayne’s sixth straight and with a win tonight; it would give the club its second straight road series sweep.

TinCap starter Matt Wisler’s threw six shutout innings to earn the victory.

Fort Wayne scored twice in the second inning, building an early lead against Quad Cities (15-14 second half, 50-48) starter Willy Paulino (2-8).

Travis Whitmore’s RBI double made it 1-0, before Tyler Stubblefield’s RBI single gave Fort Wayne a 2-0 advantage.

Wisler (4-4) did not need much assistance, giving up just three hits.

The 19-year-old right-hander struck out four of the first six batters he faced and finished the evening with six strikeouts and one walk.

Fort Wayne (18-11, 49-50) padded the lead in a nine-batter fifth inning in which Kyle Gaedele contributed a two-run triple and Travis Jankowski an RBI single. Jankowski later scored on a wild pitch.

Quad Cities was held scoreless until the eighth inning, when the River Bandits put three runs on the board.

Fort Wayne reliever Robert Eisenbach loaded the bases, and James Needy came on with just one out in the inning. Needy allowed all three of the inherited runs to score, making it 8-3 in favor of the TinCaps.

In the ninth, Matt Colantonio scored on a wild pitch and Jace Peterson singled in another run, setting the score at 8-3.

Over the TinCaps’ six-game winning streak, they’ve outscored the opposition 43-18. The Sunday win secured an eighth series victory of the 10 series Fort Wayne has played in the second half.
