Catch a ride to the old ball game is taking on a whole new meaning this Sunday.

The Fort Wayne TinCaps and the City of Fort Wayne are encouraging those biking downtown to the Sunday afternoon ballgame to utilize the Fort Wayne Trails for their ride.

“It adds so much to the entire experience,” TinCaps vice-president of marketing Michael Limmer said in a release. “To start from your home, hook up with one of the numerous Fort Wayne Trails around this community, and then take that straight into the heart of downtown is really a great complete day experience."

The baseball club will make room foe additional bike parking and the first 100 riders will receive a commemorative backpack, compliments of Parkview Trauma Center.

“Parkview is pleased to be part of a partnership with the Fort Wayne TinCaps, City of Fort Wayne and Fort Wayne Trails that encourages safety and education, Parkview Trauma Centers program manager Lisa Hollister said. "We want cyclists and motorists to be as safe as possible and for the community to be aware that unsafe cycling and driving practices can result in traumatic injuries. Promoting the importance of cycling and motorist safety complements Parkview's mission to improve the health of the communities we serve.”

Fort Wayne Trails is in the middle of an extension fund raising and education campaign. Trail representatives will be present at the ballgame to hand out maps as well as answer questions about future plans for expansion of the Fort Wayne Trail system.

"The TinCaps and Trails are a perfect combination," Limmer added. "Especially on a beautiful Sunday afternoon.”

Volunteers from Fort Wayne Trails will be operating free bike parking, called Bike Valet to handle additional bicycles beyond Parkview Field's existing bike parking. The valet program will open at 2 p.m. and run through an hour after the game. A portion of the parking lot on Brackenridge will be reserved for the Bike Valet with event-style bike racks and will be securely monitored throughout the game.
