Police arrested a man who used a shotgun to rob a grocery store Friday night in south Fort Wayne, according to city police.
The man came into Mon Asian Grocery, 3030 S. Calhoun St., toting the shotgun and covering his face with his shirt.
He ordered employees to open the cash drawer, and once they did, he took the drawer and ran from the store, police said.
Police were dispatched to the business about 8:20 p.m. Officers searching the area found a man, 22-year-old Derrick J. Birton, who matched the robber’s description, and witnesses of the holdup confirmed that he was the culprit, police said.
While searching, officers also found a shotgun and cash drawer in the 3000 block of South Harrison Street, police said.
Birton of Fort Wayne was booked into the Allen County Jail on a robbery charge. He was being held Saturday in lieu of $10,000 bail.
