A 15-year-old Fort Wayne boy died while swimming Saturday evening in Troy Cedar Lake.

The Whitley County Coroner's Office ruled the boy's death was consistent with accidental drowning Sunday afternoon but test results are pending, according to a news release from the Indiana Department of Natural Resources. His name was not released.

The victim was swimming with friends at 6:50 p.m. near a beach area at the southeast end Troy Cedar Lake in Whitley County, according to the release. Witnesses said the victim began to have trouble swimming for an unknown reason and then went underwater and never reappeared.

Conservation Officer Darren Reed recovered the boy's body at 8:22 p.m. in about 10 feet of water and 55 feet from shore, according to the release.

Reed was assisted by the Whitley County Sheriff's Department, Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department, Thorncreek Township Fire Department, Richland Township Fire Department, Whitley County EMS, and the Whitley County Coroner's Office.
