Kosciusko Co. man arrested after 11 pounds of pot found in trunk

Kosciusko County Sheriff's Department deputies arrested a Warsaw man after they allegedly found 11 pounds of marijuana in the trunk of a vehicle.

Travis James Johnson, 35, faces drug charges in connection with the incident, according to a news release.

Kosciusko County sheriff's deputies were told of what was described as a “rolling domestic" occurring at around 6 p.m. Sunday in the area of County Road 200 North and Bell Drive, on the north side of Warsaw. Kosciusko County Sheriff's Deputy Jim Smith responded to the area and immediately found the described vehicle as it was turning off the road and into a driveway. The driver, identified Johnson, got out of the vehicle and was questioned by Smith about the domestic complaint, according to the release.

During the interview, Smith found that Johnson's driver's license was suspended; the deputy began to pat down Johnson for weapons and noticed a bag of green leafy substance, later determined to be marijuana, according to the release. The vehicle that Johnson had been driving was impounded and during the inventory deputies found a bag containing more marijuana as well as portable digital scales; a large package containing nearly 11.4 pounds of marijuana was later found, according to the release.

Johnson was arrested and preliminarily charged with intent to deal marijuana and driving while suspended/prior. He was being held without bond by the Kosciusko County Prosecutor's Office at the Kosciusko County Jail.
