LONDON (AP) — British transport officials say a fire alert has suspended subway service on trains running to east London's Stratford, the site of the Olympic Park.

Transport for London said early Tuesday that service on the Central line — which stops at Stratford — has been partially suspended because a train was taken out of service after a driver reported smelling smoke.

It said all passengers left the train without reporting problems and the issue, which emerged at 7 a.m. (0600 GMT) is being investigated.

Transport for London said it was advising Olympic spectators to use other services to reach the venues at Stratford and that it did not have an estimate on when full service would resume.

London's entire transit network handles an average of 12 million trips a day.
