A Fort Wayne man is being held on a warrant after a woman and three children were released from a reported hostage situation in the 7900 block of Serenity Drive on Tuesday morning.

Dernail I. Brown, 20, was taken to the Allen County Jail on a warrant unrelated to the case after he surrendered to police, according to FWPD spokeswoman Raquel Foster.

At 9:55 a.m. Fort Wayne Police responded to an apartment home there in reference to a possible barricade-and-hostage situation. Police learned that a person wanted for questioning in an ongoing investigation was in the apartment home and possibly armed and holding the residents against their will, Foster said.

The Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were called in. Shortly after noon, the female resident, along with two teenagers and a toddler, left the apartment home safely, and the barricade suspect surrendered to authorities without incident, according to Foster. He was later taken to the Allen County Jail on the warrant.

No injuries were reported at the scene.

The incident remains under investigation with the FWPD and the Allen County prosecutor's office.
