It's been a Hall of Fame year for Will Cleveland.
A few months after being inducted into the Fort Wayne Tennis Hall of Fame, the Wildwood Racquet Club co-owner will be inducted into the United States Professional Tennis Association Midwest Tennis Hall of Fame during ceremonies Aug. 16 in Mason, Ohio. He'll be inducted along with Jorge Capestany, Greg Aten and Mike Woo, joining 35 previous members. The hall of fame was instituted in 1993.
When Cleveland came to Fort Wayne in 1988 to run Wildwood, the club had about 550 members. That increased to 800 members in 1991 and to more than 1,800 in 2001. A native of Dayton, he coached the Wright State men's and women's tennis teams from 1979 to 1983. He has received numerous awards, including the 1991 USTA Midwest's Cap Leighton Award for his work in community tennis, the 1992 USPTA Indiana Professional of the Year and was the first recipient of the USPTA Midwest Division Facility Manager of the Year Award in 1999.
