ANDERSON — A central Indiana man has been sentenced to 65 years in prison after pleading guilty to fatally stabbing a woman he told police he thought was trying to steal from him.
Sixty-eight-year-old Eddie Hargrow of Anderson was sentenced Tuesday in February's killing of 48-year-old Beverly Burnett. The Herald Bulletin reports that Hargrow pleaded guilty to murder last month days before his trial was set to begin.
Court documents say Hargrow told police he visited Burnett at her Anderson home to buy cocaine but fatally stabbed her because he believed she was trying to steal from him.
Burnett's son, Bonnell Anderson, told the court Tuesday that he and other relatives are still trying to cope with her death of his mother, whom he called a "loving" and "outspoken" woman.
