One person escapes fire that resulted in heavy damage to residence

A person was able to evacuate from a house fire early this morning that caused heavy fire and smoke damage to the residence.

Dispatchers were notified of a possible house fire at 6606 Orangewood Court around 3:07 a.m., according to a news release from the Fort Wayne Fire Department. Firefighters arrived at the split-level home seven minutes later and found smoke and fire coming from the residence.

The blaze was deemed under control at 3:32 a.m., according to the fire department, with the residence sustaining heavy smoke and fire damage, as well as moderate water damage. One person evacuated from the home prior to the arrival of firefighters, according to the release, which also said no injuries were sustained as a result of the fire.
