HENRYVILLE — Authorities say a southern Indiana man was crushed by a tree he was helping cut down when a branch fell and knocked him into the tree's path.

The Courier-Journal reports Clark County Coroner Edwin Coots said 48-year-old Danny Shelton of Deputy, 40 miles north of Louisville, died at the scene of blunt force trauma.

Sheriff Danny Rodden says Shelton and another man were cutting down a tree east of Henryville when the accident occurred shortly after 2:30 p.m. Monday. The second man told authorities they had notched the tree to get it ready to fall, and then moved out of the way when a gust of wind blew down a branch that knocked Shelton backward into the path of the tree.
