Fort Wayne Police investigating man's death after reported shooting

The Fort Wayne Police Department is investigating the death of a man after a reported shooting that likely took place shortly after midnight.

Officers responded around 12:38 a.m. to the 500 block of Birchtree Lane in order to investigate a reported shooting, according to a news release. Upon arrival, officers and paramedics found a man down in the parking lot.

The man had sustained an apparent gunshot wound and was unresponsive; he was pronounced dead at the scene, the release said. The man's identity will be released by the Allen County Coroner's Office after an autopsy has been conducted.

Witnesses reported seeing a dark-colored vehicle leaving the scene immediately after the incident, but the police department has released no suspect information and has made no arrests. The death remains under investigation by the police department, coroner's office and the Allen County Prosecutor's Office.
