IPFW had no reason to complain about its defensive effort in the Mastodons’ final exhibition women’s soccer match on Sunday. IPFW battled Northern Illinois to a 0-0 draw and got another strong performance from its freshman goalkeeper, Sam Pavlika.

The Huskies had nine shot attempts, with six on goal. The Mastodons finished the pre-season portion of their schedule unbeaten (2-0-1).

IPFW had a span of 253:30 of scoreless soccer after allowing a goal 17:30 into the game against Detroit. The Mastodons recorded consecutive shutouts.

In Sunday’s match, the Mastodons took three total shots in the game. They started seven newcomers on Sunday with Erin Gill taking the first shot of the game just under two minutes into the game.

IPFW also got another opportunity early in the second half with a shot attempt 2:03 into the period from Rachel Good. However, the shot was stopped.

Pavlika’s six saves were joined by the offensive efforts of Gill, Good, and Danielle Bishop, who each had one shot attempt.

The Mastodons open their 2012 regular season on Friday against St. Joseph’s College at 7 p.m. at the Carroll High School soccer field.
