After more than 70 days of summer vacation, you’ve got all the signs of a summer well spent – eyes still bloodshot from chlorine; thumbs aching from late-night video game marathons; stomach lodged permanently in your throat from multiple rides on the Corkscrew, Millennium Force and Top Thrill Dragster.
Now, with only one weekend standing between you and the new school year (some school systems have already returned), it’s time to review your summer vacation checklist and spend the next 48 hours in a frantic quest for even more fun.
To get you started, here are a few attractions worth checking out:
This summer, Crazy Pinz opened its 4,000-square-foot pirate-themed laser tag. Surrounded by two levels of day-glo pirates, smoke and ship masts, customers battle each other against a backdrop of cannon fire, clanging swords and the voices of swashbuckling pirates. Owner Dave Kerschner describes it as a “Disney-like experience.”
“We’re seeing first-time players come in and they barely shoot the guns,” he says. “They’re just standing there, looking around at everything.”
Weekend hours: Noon to 1 a.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 1 a.m. Saturday and noon to 8 p.m. Sunday

This is the second summer for the revamped New Haven Parks pool, which boasts 5,336 square feet of fancy slides, water domes, ground sprays and a giant bucket of water that fills up and tips over (it’s much cooler than it sounds). If you’ve spent your summer floating in a backyard pool, Jury Pool’s colorful chaos is not to be missed. Although Fort Wayne pools are closed for the summer, Jury Pool will stay open this weekend and next, giving latecomers an opportunity to discover the hidden gem.

The new Tokens-N-Tickets location, which opened in June, has a pizza buffet and a ton of games. New this summer is Connect Four, Ice Age, two Monster Drop games, Wheel Deal Extreme and Big Bass Fishing.

You’ve probably been practicing “Fruit Ninja” on your phone all summer. Now it’s time to show everyone what you’ve got. Putt Putt Fun Center installed a “Fruit Ninja” game – featuring a 4-foot-wide touch screen – this summer. Situated near the front door, the game quickly became one of Putt Putt’s most popular, manager John Snyder says.
“The kids see it and run right for it,” he says. “And everyone has been playing it on their phone, so you see some amazing players. It’s really fun to watch.”
Weekend hours: 9 a.m. to 1 a.m. daily
