Motorcyclist, passenger injured trying to avoid deer

A motorcyclist and his passenger were injured when he attempted to avoid a deer in the roadway Saturday evening in DeKalb County.

Kristopher Sliger of Avilla was traveling north in 3900 block of County Road 7 about 8:45 p.m. when a deer appeared in the roadway, according to the DeKalb County Police Department.

Sliger attempted to brake his Harley-Davidson motorcycle to avoid the animal but lost control during a rear-tire skid. The motorcycle slid across the road about 100 feet and came to rest on the west shoulder of CR 7.

The passenger, Sarah Nelson of Bryan, Ohio, was taken to DeKalb Health for treatment of a cut to the back of her head, bruise to her forehead and scrapes to her knees and hands. The driver was treated for a bruise to his forehead.
