WEST LAFAYETTE — A power outage has affected more than a dozen buildings on Purdue University's main campus in West Lafayette on the first day of the fall semester.

Purdue spokeswoman Jeanne Norberg tells the Journal & Courier that 17 buildings had no power late Monday afternoon. She says the cause of the outage wasn't immediately known.

She says faculty were deciding on a class-by-class basis whether to cancel or teach without power.

The affected buildings included Beering Hall, Haas Hall, Marriott Hall and the student health center.

Lighting, heating and cooling is generated by the Wade Utility Plant on the campus.
