FORT WAYNE – A 13-year-old shot in front of a Fort Wayne church while riding a bike with a friend has been identified.
Aquavion J. Manning, who was last reported as being in critical condition, was struck Saturday night while riding his dirt bike in front of the Warsaw Street Baptist Church, 2901 Warsaw St.
Manning and a friend were riding bicycles south on Warsaw Street about 9:50 p.m. when a dark car, also southbound, drove past, said police spokesman Jason Anthony for an earlier story.
Someone inside the car fired multiple shots, and one hit Manning. The car was last seen going south on Warsaw, Anthony said.
Struck in the leg, the teenager was conscious and talking before he was taken to a hospital. As of Sunday, police said, the Fort Wayne child’s condition was described as critical, but police on Monday morning said his condition was not available.
As police investigated late Saturday, the victim’s bright orange dirt bike lay on the path to the church’s front entrance. Anthony said neighbors reported hearing three to five shots.
The shooting remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
