NEW YORK — Here are the 10 best new TV shows to watch this fall:

•“Ben and Kate” (Fox, premieres Sept. 25). This is the funniest new comedy of the fall. Ben is an up-for-anything flibbertigibbet. Kate, his younger sister, a single mother of adorable Maddie, is barely making ends meet as a bar manager. How fortunate Ben drops in to stir up his trademark brand of chaos. Kate and Maddie are ready to help ground him a bit.

•“Emily Owens, M.D.” (CW, premieres Oct. 16). This romantic drama proposes that hospital life is like a high school do-ever as Emily Owens, a former high school geek and recent medical school graduate, starts her internship.

•“Last Resort” (ABC, premieres Sept 27). Why has the commander of a U.S. ballistic missile submarine received orders to fire nuclear weapons at Pakistan? When he demands confirmation, the submarine is targeted and hit. The crew takes refuge on a distant tropical island and tries to discover why they've been declared traitors.

•“Made in Jersey” (CBS, premieres Sept. 28). A New Jersey girl with plentiful hair and short skirts, Martina Garretti is a not-so-secret weapon in the lofty Manhattan law firm where she's just starting out.

•“The Mindy Project” (Fox, premieres Sept. 25). Dr. Mindy Lahiri is a seasoned physician who shares a practice with several other doctors, but her private life is dizzy and her love life is a mess.

•“Nashville” (ABC, premieres Oct. 10). Connie Britton is pitch-perfect as Rayna James, a country music superstar whose popularity has begun to evaporate after a long reign. All too ready to seize her throne is scheming up-and-comer Juliette Barnes (Hayden Panettiere).

•“Mob Doctor” (Fox, premieres Sept. 17). Dr. Grace Devlin is a top surgeon at Roosevelt Medical Center in Chicago, but she's also obligated to make house calls to mobsters for on-the-job injuries to pay off her brother's gambling debt.

•“666 Park Avenue” (ABC, premieres Sept. 30). Gavin Doran (Terry O'Quinn) and wife Olivia (Vanessa Williams) tempt and torment their building's captive tenants.

•“The New Normal” (NBC, premieres Sept. 11). Bryan and David are a committed, loving couple who want a child. Goldie, a single mother and struggling waitress, agrees to carry their child in exchange for the financial means for her and her daughter to break from their past.

•“Vegas” (CBS, premieres Sept. 25). Las Vegas Sheriff Ralph Lamb, a fourth-generation rancher, clashes with Vincent Savino, a Chicago gangster who runs a glamorous casino. Dennis Quaid and Michael Chiklis star.
