Bad weather didn't stop New Haven High School students and families from enjoying food and activities Friday night during an event that moved to the school's gym.

Family Support Specialist Denita Washington said she wanted to organize an event that was a little different to increase student and parent involvement.

So before Friday's football game, New Haven held an educational tailgate party.

"I just wanted to step out of the box and do something unique to get students involved, parents involved," Washington said.

The event attracted a number of organizations like IPFW, Ivy Tech, University of Saint Francis, Parkview's Don't Text and Drive, Walgreens and the YMCA. Washington said she'd tried to attract organizations to reach students and families mentally, physically and educationally.
