Items donated Tuesday at the Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial will be sent to troops serving in Iraq and Afghanistan Toiletries/clothing Soap Baby Wipes Hand sanitizer Toothbrushes Shaving cream, Razors Feminine hygiene items Sunscreen Insect repellent Chap Stick with sunscreen, Carmex, Blistex Body wash Shampoo Foot powder, socks Food Items K-Cups (coffee sampler packs, tea, cider and cocoa) Ground coffee (not instant) Tea Cold drink mixes – Gatorade, Crystal Lite, Kool Aid or the individual flavor straws you add to bottled water Sunflower seeds and nuts Individual snacks like chips, crackers, cookies, cheese/cracker kits Peanut butter and jelly (small-size plastic jars) Beef jerky/Slim Jims Miscellaneous items Batteries American flags DVDs (no Blu-Rays) Magazines Socks |
Residents are invited to commemorate the 11th anniversary of the Sept. 11 terrorist attacks from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the Law Enforcement Firefighters Memorial of Allen County at 1001 N. Wells St.
The Fort Wayne Fire Department and Allen County Public Safety encourage residents to place an American flag in the grassy area behind the memorial to remember those who were killed in the attacks.
There will be no formal ceremony. Flags will be available at the memorial from 5 to 8 p.m. Fort Wayne Fire and Police Pipe and Drum Corps members will be playing at 7 p.m.
The memorial site will also serve as a drop-off location for people wishing to donate items for troops overseas. Lendingahand.net will collect donated items that will be shipped directly to troops serving in Afghanistan and Iraq.
