•Amber Williams of Fort Wayne has enrolled at Heidelberg University, Tiffin, Ohio, for the fall semester.

•The Horatio Alger Association awarded the 2012 Dennis R. Washington Achievement Scholarship to 2005 Horatio Alger National Scholar Lowell D. Caulder of Fort Wayne. The $20,000 scholarship provides assistance for recipients pursuing graduate, medical or law degrees.

•The National Educators Workshop takes place Nov. 4-7 at Ivy Tech Community College-Northeast. Cost is $295; $99 for high school educators and students. Registration: www.Materialseducation.org/educators/new.

•Matthew Kubik and Patrick Ashton will present “Social Media or Social Spaces? Political Perspectives and the Future of Urban Public Space” at 7 p.m. Thursday at IPFW, Neff Hall, Room 101, 2101 Coliseum Blvd. Free admission.

•Bishop Dwenger High School will hold homecoming activities Sept. 29. Tours start at 4:30 p.m. Pre-game festivities begin at 5:45 p.m.; bring tailgate dish. Football game begins at 7 p.m. Post-game gathering after the game at Quaker Steak and Lube.

•National Merit Scholarship Corp. announced these semifinalists in the National Merit Scholarship program: Sarah Claudy, Angola High School; Steve Li, Catherine O'Malley and David Pan, all of Canterbury High School; Marie C. Langford, home schooled; Maxwell Dvorak, Hanita Epstein, Madyson Holtzinger, Kevin Kusisto, Weilin Liao, Alison Mansfield, Emily Muha, Geena Roth and Danielle Wildrick, all of Homestead High School; Sean McManus and Nancy McNamara, both of Bishop Luers High School; Maria Nunez and Isaac Wappes, both of Snider High School; Lauren Detweiler of Goshen High School; Morgan Goetz of Huntington North High School; Wyatt Wright of Southwood High School; Alek Jansen of Warsaw Community High School; and Sarah Griffin of DeKalb High School.

•Bishop Luers High School's Athletic Booster Club will hold a men's smoker night Oct. 6 at the school, 333 E. Paulding Road. $25 a person; must be 21 to attend.

•The McMillen Center for Health Education will launch its new preschool dental program, “brush!” 5:30-7:30 p.m. Oct. 9 at the Fort Wayne Museum of Art, 311 E. Main St. Cost is $25. Reservations: 456-4511 by Sept. 24.
