Three local arts organizations will combine to launch their seasons with productions Friday and Sunday of “Carmina Burana”at the Arts United Center, 303 E. Main St.

Dancers from Fort Wayne Ballet will join with choral group Heartland's festival chorus and orchestra, and with the voices of the Fort Wayne Children's Choir. The groups also will be joined by guest percussionists from Ball State University and dancers and guest soloists from the international stage, a Heartland news release said.

The production features choral and dance interpretations of 24 medieval poems set to music by German composer Carl Orff, it says on the ballet's website, www.fortwayneballet.org. The performance is rated PG, as some poems' topics include love, sex, drinking and gambling.

Orff composed “Carmina Burana” in 1936, and arranged the poems by theme: “Fortune, Empress of the World,” “Springtime,” “In the Tavern,” and “The Court of Love,” it says on About.com's Classical Music area, http://classicalmusic.about.com.
