FORT WAYNE — Matt Lindsay will not be part of a ceremony Friday to honor Bishop Luers linebacker Jaylon Smith?s selection to play in the U.S. Army All-American Bowl.

The former Luers football coach will also no longer be invited to the game Jan. 5 in San Antonio?s Alamodome, Amy Sorrells, spokeswoman for All American Games, which owns the U.S. Army All-American Bowl, told The Journal Gazette on Tuesday.

Lindsay was fired as Luers? coach and athletic director Sept. 16 after he was put on administrative leave when ?inappropriate? videos featuring students and others unaware they were being recorded – none of which contained nudity – were discovered on Lindsay?s computer Sept. 12.

The Allen County Sheriff?s Department is investigating whether the videos on Lindsay?s computer warrant criminal charges. Lindsay, who won nine state titles as head coach, had coached at Luers for 33 years.

In an announcement for Friday?s assembly at Luers, the All-American Bowl said the Army would recognize Lindsay and invite him to come to San Antonio.

Sorrells said Steve Keefer will be part of Friday?s assembly and will be invited to the game. Keefer, who coached Luers from 1979 to ?86 and won a Class 2A state title with the Knights in 1985, was elevated from his position as the freshman team coach to interim varsity coach Sept. 17.

?There?s been situations in the past, I can?t recite an exact one, where we?ve had to rescind some coach invites, but they?ve always been for events that were out of our control, mainly like this one,? Sorrells said.

Smith, a 6-foot-3, 215-pound senior, is a Notre Dame recruit. He is rated the top linebacker prospect and No. 3 overall recruit by Rivals.com.

Homestead senior Christopher Podlaski, a trumpet player, will be part of the All-American Bowl?s marching band. He will receive his honorary jacket at the school Oct. 4.
