At about 11:30 a.m. Friday, Verizon Wireless restored service that had been interrupted for customers in the Fort Wayne area.
Spokeswoman Michelle Gilbert said she didn't know how many customers were affected or exactly how large an area was involved. She said the outage "impacted in and around Allen County."
At first the company thought one of its vendors had severed a fiber-optic cable earlier in the morning. Later, Gilbert said, company officials learned that a cable hadn't been cut, but the outage had been caused by a failure of equipment provided by a vendor.
