An autopsy performed Tuesday afternoon at the Northeast Indiana Forensic Center found that a man committed suicide in the Allen County Jail Saturday by hanging himself.

Craig Mitchell Schowe, 46, of Auburn was found hanging in his cell in the jail on Saturday. He was taken to St. Joseph Hospital, where he died at 10:42 a.m. Monday, the Allen County Coroner's Office reported Wednesday.

The preliminary autopsy findings are that his cause of death was asphyxia due to hanging, and the manner of death was suicide, the coroner's office said.

The incident remains under investigation by the Allen County Police Department and the coroner's office.
