Saturday run/walk to raise money for prostate cancer research

Northeast Indiana Urology is hosting the second Annual Great Prostate Cancer Challenge 5K run/walk Saturday at 9 a.m. to support ZERO, a national campaign to reduce deaths from prostate cancer to zero.

Thirty-four communities across the country are taking part in the Great Prostate Cancer Challenge this year. All funds will go to ZERO to be used for research, free prostate cancer screenings and advocacy. More than half of the proceeds from the Fort Wayne run/walk will remain in the community. According to the National Cancer Institute, one in six men will be diagnosed with prostate cancer in their lifetime, and nationally, four men die from prostate cancer every hour.

Race-day registration begins at 7:45 a.m. in the Portage Middle School parking lot, 3521 Taylor St. The entry fee is $25 for adults and $18 for youth ages 17 and under. The fee includes a timing chip, long-sleeve technical shirt and pancake breakfast after the race. Go to to learn more.
