FORT WAYNE — A driver struck and seriously injured a 13-year-old girl on Broadway before leaving the scene Wednesday morning, Fort Wayne police said.
The collision occurred as the girl was crossing Broadway to reach her school bus stop in the 1000 block of West Creighton Avenue, police said.
Officers were called to Broadway and Scott Avenue about 6:40 a.m. The girl was taken to a hospital where she was listed in serious but stable condition. Her identity was not released.
The southbound car that hit her had no headlights on, but after the collision, the driver turned on his lights as he continued south, witnesses told police.
The driver remained at large Wednesday. The car was described as a large, older, possibly tan, four-door vehicle similar to an Oldsmobile 98, police said.
The girl was struck by the driver’s side of the car, and the collision left a large dent on that side and possibly a broken window, police said.
Anyone with information about the driver or the car is encouraged to call police at 427-1222.
