A train dragged an unoccupied pickup truck for a about mile after hitting it early Sunday in Waterloo, according to the DeKalb County Sheriff’s Department.
For an unknown reason, the truck, a 1998 Dodge Dakota, was sitting on the tracks about 385 feet west of the Center Street crossing.
A westbound Norfolk Southern mail train struck the truck about 4 a.m. and took about a mile to come to a stop.
No one was inside the truck that was owned by an Auburn man, and no injuries were reported.
The crash caused an estimated $200,000 in damage to the train and tracks. The truck was totaled.
Investigators are trying to figure out why the truck was left on the tracks.
