The Venice is having its annual Octoberfest on Friday, serving many items on its buffet, including sauerbraten; beef rouladen; weinerschnitzel; cabbage rolls; brats and sauerkraut; brats and apples; German potato salad; red cabbage; potato dumplings; potato pancakes; cucumber and onion salad; and spaetzel.
The buffet is $18.95 per person; $7.50 for children 10 and under.
Black forest cake will be $2.95. The Venice also will feature St.Pauli Girl and Bitburger beers and will have a selection of German wines.
For reservations, call 482-1618. The buffet starts at 5 p.m. George Berger will play the accordion and have a German sing-a-long starting at 5:30. The Venice is at 2242 Goshen Road.
Dicky's Wild Hare, 2910 Maplecrest Road, is hosting Octoberfest activities Monday-Oct. 28. You'll be able to get $4 pints of select beers, and the pizza buffet is $6 all day long every day. In addition, smoked sausage and peppers and bratwurst will be on the menu. At 5 p.m. Oct. 25, they'll tap a keg of Goose Island Bourbon County Stout. On Oct. 27, Dicky's Halloween party features live music by the Wailhounds starting at 9 p.m., no cover.
Sample German appetizers, main courses and desserts prepared by German cooks at A Taste of Germany 6-8 p.m. Saturday at Park Edelweiss, 3355 Elmhurst Drive. Entry fee is $15 and recipes are $1 each.
This week, Ceruti's Café in the lower level of Citizens Square, 200 E. Berry St., is serving ham and beans with cornbread for $3.50; a grilled cheese sandwich and tomato soup for $3; or soup in a bread bowl for $4.25. The fall specials include a free pumpkin streusel bar. It's open to public 7:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Monday-Friday.
Mexico Antiguo is supposed to open in a couple of weeks where Blu City Tavern used to be at 2787 Maplecrest Road. It's owned by the Soto family, who also owns the Cebolla restaurants and Don Chavas.
Coliseum Donuts, 1530 N. Coliseum Blvd., is supposed to open Oct. 24. Hours: 5 a.m.-8 p.m. Monday-Saturday; Sunday hours to be determined. It's owned by Song and Huy Koa, who owned the Tom's Donuts at Clinton Street and Coliseum Boulevard.
Steel Smokin' BBQ, a professional barbecue team from Butler, has qualified and will compete in the 24th annual Jack Daniel's World Championship Invitational Barbecue on Oct. 27 in Lynchburg, Tenn. They'll compete against nearly 90 teams in the quest for the title of Grand Champion. We wish the team luck.
