Deer hunter hurt in 17-foot tumble

MORE ARTICLES

Two snapped cables caused a hunter in Noble County to fall 17 feet from his tree stand Saturday, according to the Indiana Department of Natural Resources.

The hunter, Terry Tucker, 57, suffered a serious hip injury from the fall.

Tucker, from Albion, was climbing into the tree stand for an evening of deer hunting about 4 p.m., according to conservation officers who investigated the fall.

Just as he placed his weight onto the platform, two metal cables holding it out and away from the tree and parallel with the ground snapped in half, sending Tucker plummeting, the DNR said.

Tucker never lost consciousness after the fall and was able to take his cellphone from his pocket to call 911 for help.

Officers with the Noble County Sheriff?s Department and emergency responders from Noble County EMS and the Noble Township Volunteer Fire Department responded to the scene.

Tucker was taken to a hospital in Columbia City for treatment.
