FORT WAYNE – A house was badly damaged in a blaze late Thursday just south of downtown.
Firefighters were called to the two-story house at 314 E. Dewald St. shortly after 9 p.m., according to a written statement issued by the Fort Wayne Fire Department.
The bedroom area of the house had heavy fire, water and smoke damage, the statement said. The fire extended into part of the attic.
The house was not occupied at the time of the fire, and officials said the house appears to be vacant or abandoned.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
