The owner of a northeast Indiana bar and a second woman were assaulted early Saturday while trying to break up a small fight, according to a statement from the Warsaw Police Department.

It said Susan Helms, 51, owner of Susie's Sand Bar at 1360 W. Center St., had a number of injuries after being grabbed by the neck and thrown down, striking her head on the corner of a pool table. A 41-year-old woman was also grabbed by the hair and shoved into a wall, the police said.

Shane F. Dawson, 30, of Warsaw, is accused of attacking Helms and faces one count of battery resulting in serious bodily injury. Helms suffered injuries to her head, neck and upper chest, police said.

A 22-year-old Warsaw woman was charged with a misdemeanor count of battery in connection with the assault on the other woman.

Police were called to the bar shortly after 1:30 a.m.
