Maybe Dad was trying to fix the lights on the Christmas tree. He plugged them back in, you heard a “Pop!,” and all the lights on the tree started smoking.

Maybe your parents took you and your little sister to see Santa at the mall. When they set her on his lap, she took one look, scrunched up her face in fear and and let out a scream nearly sharp enough to shatter nearby store windows.

Or maybe Uncle Irv was bending over to light the menorah and accidentally caught his hair on fire.

When families get together at the holidays, goofy things happen. If you caught one of those crazy moments on camera, we're inviting you to enter the picture in our Worst Winter Holiday Photo Contest.

This isn't a contest for bad photos. We're looking for photos that captured awkward, embarrassing or funny family moments at the holidays.

The winner will receive a visit from our staff photo expert, who will take a family portrait. We'll provide the winner with a free framed print of the family portrait, as well as a disc containing digital images from the photo shoot.

We plan to publish the winning photo on Christmas Eve. We'll also share other photo entries on our website that day.

We will accept photo entries today-midnight Nov. 25. You must be a resident of northeast Indiana to enter. Limit one entry per household. No altered photos please.

We'll post the top entries on our website, and then readers can go to www.news-sentinel.com Dec. 3 through 5 p.m. Dec. 14 to vote for the winner.

Here's how to enter:

•Email: Send your photos as high-resolution, JPG images to nscontest@news-sentinel.com. Please include your name, daytime phone number and a brief description identifying the people in the photo, what is happening and when and where the photo was taken.

•Mail: Send to Worst Winter Holiday Photo Contest, The News-Sentinel, 600 W. Main St., Fort Wayne, IN 46802. Please include your name, daytime phone number, email address and a description identifying the people in the photo, what is happening in the picture and when and where it was taken. If you would like the photo returned, please include a self-addressed, stamped envelope.
